Vadim Sokolov, born in Moskow in 1942, and his wife Natalia
Sokolova, born in 1943 in Nowosibirsk, Siberia, met during their
study time at the Kalinin Academy of Arts in Moskow and married after
their examination. Till today, their lifes are determined by their
mutual inspiration, which also involves the lifes of their
two, not less talented children.
Their work is strongly influenced by the "Group of the Nine",
Painters of the 60's, especially Boris Byrger (teacher of Natalia and Vadim),
as well as Kandinsky, Cezanne, Monet, an others; but nevertheless
they found their own, personal style of painting.
In Natalia's paintings, light plays an important part. Her
special style of applying colors in thick layers to the canvas,
makes leafs, trees and furrows sometimes appear a little
three-dimensional and raised from the canvas.
Vadim's paintings are quite different from the typical
russian style of naturalistic pictures, that Natalia and Elena prefer.
His picture style is more abstract an expressionistic, with
deformed geometric and areal structures, including cubistic
elements. He prefers to paint houses and urban architecture
and has turned away from tradional painting to his own, modern style.
Sokolov's daughter Elena, born in Moskow in 1966, has inherited
the artistic talent of her parents. Since she graduated from the academy
of arts she also participates in international exhibitions.
She likes bright colors and prefers stil lifes, flowers and
to play with the light.
Her brother Pjotr is 19 year old and stil student of the academy
of arts. Yet, he has gained success by his noticeable talent.
Moreover, his remarkable watercolors are still available for fair prices
at an inexpensive level.
